This page will guide you to the work that is all about Creation Myths. To
go to the assignments just click on the title of the myth you are studying
at present.

Before you move on please make sure you
read the following information:-
 | A Myth
is a special kind of story that uses all sorts of images, special times,
special places and symbols to explain something that is beyond our
knowledge.
|
 | Myths contain truths that
often need to be understood within the religion that they come from.
|
 | Myths are very important and
must be treated carefully
|
 | Creation myths
are religious stories, mostly coming from a very long time ago, which
try to answer the age old question " how did the universe begin".
|
 | Although we might think that we have
scientific knowledge about the beginning of our universe, we do not know
the exact truth and sometimes we need to look elsewhere for some ideas
that expand our minds. We need to look at myths to give us a
wider picture to understand our wonderful universe.
|
 | Creation myths also help us to
understand why so many humans believe that we do not own the world and
can simply do with it what we like. Creation myths help us
understand that we only borrow the world while we live in it and
that it really belongs to someone else. |
A Chinese Creation Story -
Pan Gu
A Hindu Creation Story
The Genesis story of Creation
The Aboriginal Dreamtime
The Modern Story
As a final piece of work in
this you need to fill in a grid which compares all the stories to show the
similarities and the differences. This will help you understand some
of the patterns that emerge from all the stories and show hw they all
point to caring for the planet. We need to think carefully about our
world and have a sense that it belongs to everyone. This will help
us be strong in our commitment to saving natural resources and helping
stop pollution in all its forms.
You can download the grid here, open it in Word, save
it to your hard disc and then fill it in as required. Thank
carefully about the bottom set of boxes. You will need to print the final
copy and fix it into your books.
