Assignment     -     PURE LAND BUDDHISM

We have completed the historical period up to the arrival and movement of Buddhism through China.  You have written an essay on the conditions in  China at the time of the arrival of Buddhism.     Now:  we need to look at key development in Pure Land Buddhism  -  people and development. 

Task: 

  1. Notes:  Please make notes on key figures in Pure Land Buddhism from the handouts given PLUS the excellent chart on the web site on Pure Land.  The material is condensed and needs to be fully noted.
  2. Essay: (a) Explain the contribution of at least two key people in Pure Land Buddhism. (12 marks)  (b)  To what extent do these contributions make Pure Land distinctive?

DUE:  First lesson back after Easter!!!   WE MUST THEN GO STRAIGHT ON TO ZEN BUDDHISM.   That is the final unit and I want time for revision.
