Social Harmony

One of the four main sections of the GCSE specification involves Social Harmony.  Two topics within this area are RACISM and GENDER ISSUES.

This work which is planned for the summer vacation is designed to keep you thinking about these issues and to produce two essays which will help you gather your research into one.

Tasks.

Please note that some of these tasks are simply for your folders and need not be handed in. However they will help you a great deal in the organisation of your work so please carry them out.  The work highlighted is work that you must hand in at the beginning of term.

1.    RACISM

1.      Read XTW pages 49 to 50.  This will give you a good background to the issues.

2.      Read each section in TCB on Racism and the Racism and the Church.  Please complete          for your folders the FOLLOW  UP questions on Page 89,   page 95,  page 100 and          page 104

3.      Write an essay of 750 words or more based on the following:

-   What problems does Racism cause in society?
-   Is the Church Racist?
-   How can Christians help repair the damage done by racism? 
-   Give examples of Christians who have helped

2.   Women and the Church

1.          Read TCB page 174 – 179 an complete the follow up questions on P179.

2.          Read  XTW page 54 – 56. And Draw the Chart specified on P54 outlining arguments for and against the ordination of women.

3.         Read XTW Page 57.  And complete Activity A on p57

4.         Read XTW page 58 – 59.  Complete Focus Task  1 and 2 .

5.       Write an essay about Women and the Church  (750+ words)

You can base your answer on the following:-

EITHER

-   Should men and women have different roles in the Church
-   Should men and women be equal in their roles
-   Should Christianity be affected by the change in attitudes to women

            OR

-   Question 3 of the Focus task on Page 59 XTW
