Guru Nanak is the founder of the Sikh Religion.  He was born in 1469 in India.  He was brought up as a Hindu but he lived at a time when Islamic rulers dominated India and he had some very close friends who were Muslims.

There is some very important information about Guru Nanak in the sites that follow:-

The birthday's of the Gurus are both remembered and celebrated by the Sikh people.  These special celbrations are called GURPURBS.  Normally they are celebrated with a reading of the Guru Granth Sahib,  the Holy Book.

This reading is call AKAND PATH.  It is continuous and takes about 48 hours for a teams of readers to read it from start to finish.  As many  Sikhs as possible will come to the Gurdwara to hear this. In Hong Kong most Sikhs will try to go on Sunday (a day off for most people) so that they can hear the last part and join in the meal which celebrates the end of the Akand Path.
