The definition of a snack is 'a food product eaten between or in place of a meal'. It is because of this that they appeal to people with a busy and active lifestyle. Snacks are quick, convenient and easy to eat. Unfortunately most snacks are high in fat, low in nutrition and produced by cooking techniques such as frying that saturate the food in fat.

Health trends are beginning to influence food manufacturers to be more aware of reducing the use of artificial additives, flavours, MSG and fat.  Fried snacks are now available as baked snacks which don't saturate the product in fat.

Design Brief

For this project you need to create two ideas for baked not fried pastry based snacks that will appeal to students at South Island School. The products will be made and packaged on the premises. So you will need to design and make packaging for the products. You will also need to carry out sensory analysis tests and research into natural flavourings that you can use in your products.
