PA 1-3 Planning (Deadline) |
Introduction Introduction
to Green Design (Why green design is necessary) refer to topic 6.2 Include the completed “Clean and Green” worksheet pages 1 – 3 |
Case
Study Look
up 3 environmentally conscious design websites. Write a synopsis on what the
authors set out to achieve, how long they have been active, where they are
based. Include one “green product” that each website talks about and evaluate
it on an aesthetic and environmental level. (inc picture) You should produce each case study in the style of the website. |
Brief Complete
a design brief (you should attempt to
answer all of topic 3.3 within this page)
Explain
why the DCM
is non linear and what the star in the centre represents. Use diagrams to
help explain your answer.
Include the completed “Clean and Green” worksheet pages 4 – 5. |
Specification Using
the completed “Clean and Green” worksheet pages 8 – 9 to help justify,
complete a sound specification of your product. Ensure the specification is fully linked to the information submitted on the LSA. |
RA 1-3 Research (Deadline) |
Introduction
identifying your research strategies. Complete
a short investigation on the following; green design, sustainable design and (HL) appropriate
technology. The investigation should cover the answers to topics 3.2 and 12.1 |
Visit
a scrap yard and photo investigate what you see happening. Include your risk
assessment made prior to the site visit. You
will need to cover examples of LCA (3.2) and Strategies for green design
(3.3) |
Environmental
Implications of the Industrial Age Make
reference to the completed “Clean and Green” worksheet pages 10 – 11
Materials
Testing (Identification) Using the IB Materials Matrix and the relevant class notes, design and carry out tests in order to identify the materials you have gathered from the site visit. (use diagrams, photos and raw data) make reference to topic 4 |
- |
Materials
Testing (Manufacturing Processes) Using the information collected from page 8, relevant class notes and text books, identify the proper means of working with the materials gathered (Cutting, joining, finishing) make reference to topic 5 |
DA 1-3 Development (Deadline) |
10 |
Introduction defining freehand drawing, the process of creating them and the importance of developing 2D & 3D interpretations. Brainstorm of initial thoughts- annotate ‘doodle’. Define the term brainstorming. Generate a range of possible solutions that respond to the Design Brief. Link ideas to images and concepts derived from your research or ‘doodle’ page- creative catalysts |
11-13 |
Use a range of graphical media throughout. Sketches, 2D/3D perspective, detail drawings, dynamic drawings, card models, orthographic, exploded drawings CAD drawing and final orthographic fully dimensioned Annotation
referring to: Research draw up a risk assessment for each idea (refer to manufacturing processes from pg 8 ) Ergonomics (user interface, logic) Materials choice and joining techniques Possible manufacturing techniques Evaluation of each design outlining strengths and weaknesses of each design. Perform tests. Specification Checks on each design |
14 |
Draw up a complete LSA flow chart, of the source of your materials, include your product. Referring to the final idea and manufacturing processes to be used, plot a “production run – cost” chart. You will need to estimate the unit revenue in order to find the “break even” point. Conclude with the cost effectiveness question from 7.2 and the value for money question from 7.3. |

Manufacturing (Deadline) |

EA 1-3 Evaluation (Deadline) |
18 |
Introduction Test the quality, performance, other functional requirements of the product against the original Specification in its intended working environment/conditions over an extended period of time. |
19 |
Analyse your design strategies & problems throughout your process testing and reviewing against the Specification and discuss all modifications to improve your design. Evaluate your processes, what processes needed to be changed, adapted from your experience. |
20 |
Use clear drawings with notes to show alterations to improve the design Describe how the product would be scaled for production- batch, mass, develop derivatives |
